. This tropical sub-rainforest region is around 1125 kilometres
north of Brisbane, or 725 kilometres south of Cairns. The Cumberland
and Northcumberland Island groups, commonly called the Whitsunday
Islands, form the largest offshore island chain on Australia’s
east coast. You can skipper your own vessel, go sailing for the
day, snorkel and scuba dive at the second largest dive destination
in Australia, water ski, explore rainforests, go horseriding or

On the Reef:
You don’t have to go far from the coast to see beautiful
coral and abundant marine life in the Whitsundays. Great snorkelling
spots can be found right on your doorstep as fringing reefs surround
many of the islands. Fast catamarans and boats depart daily for
the outer reef from the coastal and island resorts. Several diving
and fishing expeditions are available, as are helicopter or seaplane
tours.
Bushwalking:
Those who walk through the National Parks on the Whitsunday Islands
will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the turquoise seas

walks as part of their activities program. On the mainland you
can set off on foot to explore the deep valleys and open rainforest

Talk to the Animals:
The Whitsunday region is overflowing with wildlife. Visitors can
see magnificent humpback whales frolic in the calm waters between
July and September. From January to March the turtle hatchlings
emerge from their nests in island beach sands, and throughout
the year there are several species of birds nesting. Don’t
miss the fascinating crocodile show at Barefoot Bushman’s
Wildlife Park .
